Ultram contains the active ingredient Tramadol Hydrochloride and is used to treat or prevent moderate to moderately severe pain. Ultram is an analgesic or pain-killer which is specially usable when a patient needs round the clock treatment for pain relief.

Usage

Ultram tablets are taken every 4 to 6 hours or as needed and it is suggested to use this medicine exactly as prescribed. Ultram can be habit-forming and therefore should not be used for durations more than what is prescribed. Do not take Ultram in excess of 300 mgs per day.

Never take two doses of Ultram at the same time in case you have missed an earlier dose. Skip the missed dose and simply proceed to your regular dosing schedule.

Ultram is contraindicated (not to be used) for persons allergic or hypersensitive to Tramadol or in situations where the use of opioids is to be avoided especially in cases of severe alcohol intoxication or drug dependence.

Caution: Ultram comes under US FDA Pregnancy Category C which means there have been no controlled studies in humans with Ultram. Therefore Ultram is not recommended for use during pregnancy.

Caution: Ultram overdose may cause drowsiness, shallow breathing and slow heartbeat including fatalities. Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect Ultram overdose.

Side Effects

Most common Ultram side effects are agitation, anxiety, bloating and gas, constipation, convulsive movements, diarrhea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth. These side effects may not occur to everyone and can be easily treated by your doctor in case you experience it.

Precaution

Inform your doctor if you have kidney disease, liver disease, seizure disorder, lung disease, drug or alcohol dependency, or any allergies before being prescribed Ultram.

Limit alcohol use when taking Ultram as it may increase the dizziness or drowsiness effects of the medication

Avoid Ultram if you have a history of seizures or metabolic disorders.

Keep Ultram stored away from heat and light and out of the reach of children.
