Phentermine is used for short-term management of obesity as it is an appetite suppressant containing the active ingredient Phentermine hydrochloride. Phentermine suppresses the appetite nodes in the brain although the exact mechanism is not known. Phentermine is not a substitute for proper diet and therefore for maximal effects phentermine is best used alongside a well designed diet and exercise regimen.

Usage

Phentermine should be taken on an empty stomach preferably one hour before meals. The best time to take Phentermine is one hour before breakfast. Take Phentermine strictly as prescribed by your doctor.

Do not use Phentermine in combination with other appetite suppressants.

As Phentermine causes sleeplessness do not take any dose late in the day as it could disturb your sleep.

Phentermine is usually taken for periods not exceeding 8-12 weeks.

Phentermine is contraindicated (not to be used) for persons allergic or hypersensitive to Phentermine hydrochloride

Caution: Phentermine comes under US FDA Pregnancy Category C which means that the effect of Phentermine has not been tested on pregnant humans but nevertheless animal studies have indicated that the medicine is harmful to the fetus. Therefore the use of Phentermine in pregnant women is not recommended in general. Phentermine should not be used by nursing mothers either.

Side Effects

Common side effects of Phentermine are changes in sex drive, constipation, diarrhea, dizziness, dry mouth, depression, headache, high blood pressure, hives, and impotence, inability to fall or stay asleep and increased heart rate. If these side effects persist consult your doctor to alter the dose and take other remedial steps.

Precaution

Inform your doctor if you have high blood pressure, thyroid problems, glaucoma, and diabetes, before being prescribed Phentermine.

Do not use alcohol when undergoing treatment with Phentermine as it could increase unwanted side effects like dizziness.

Phentermine could become habit forming and therefore should be used with caution.
