About
Imovane is a prescription medication manufactured by Sepracor Inc and which contains the active ingredient zopiclone (sedative/hypnotic drug). It is used for treating sleeplessness commonly referred to as insomnia. Usage
Imovane in tablet form is preferably taken just before bedtime with a full glass of water. Imovane should not be taken with food or immediately after taking food.Swallow the Imovane tablets whole and never crush or break the Imovane tablet.
Take Imovane strictly as advised by your doctor and stick to the dosage regimen prescribed to you.
Imovane is contraindicated (not to be used) for persons allergic or hypersensitive to zopiclone, and for persons with severe liver damage, those having depression and psychiatric disorders, and those with a history of alcohol and drug abuse
Caution: Imovane comes under US FDA Pregnancy Category C and is therefore reckoned not to be safe for use by pregnant women. Category C means that the effects of Imovane have not been studied on pregnant humans but harm to the fetus did occur in animal studies. Imovane is also reckoned to be unsafe for nursing mothers. Since animal studies do not always correspond to studies in humans, your doctor may decide to give you Imovane if he believed that the benefits of taking Imovane far outweighed possible risks to the unborn child.
Caution: Imovane overdose may cause slowing down of the brain which in medical parlance is referred to as Central Nervous System depression. Typical symptoms of Imovane overdose include drowsiness, confusion, slurred speech and decreased breathing. In the unlikely event of consuming an overdose of Imovane and experiencing these symptoms seek immediate and urgent medical attention.
An overdose of Imovane could be fatal if taken with other CNS depressants or alcohol. Therefore tell your doctor of other medications you may be taking before being prescribed Imovane.
Side Effects
Imovane like most other medicines has side effects. However not all people who take this medicine gets these side effects, as generally most people tolerate Imovane pretty well. Imovane side effects if and when they occur are generally minor and can be easily treated by your doctor.The most common side effects of Imovane are headache, unpleasant taste, drowsiness, dry mouth and heart burn.
The not so common side effects of Imovane include, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, decreased libido and painful periods.
Precaution
The effects of Imovane are almost immediate. Therefore Imovane should not be taken before going out on a drive or doing some work on machinery, or doing other things that need a high degree of concentration.Don’t take alcohol after taking Imovane as it could cause potentially dangerous reactions.
Avoid taking Imovane immediately after taking heavy fatty food.
