Codeine belongs to a group of drugs called narcotic pain medicines. Codeine tablets are used to treat mild to moderate pain. Codeine tablets are also useful for treating diarrhea and irritable bowel syndrome. It is also found to be effective for suppressing cough.

Codeine tablets work by mimicking the action of pain reducing chemicals called endorphins and this in turn blocks the transmission of pain signals sent from the nerves to the brain.

Generic Codeine tablets are supplied by us in strength of 15 mg and 40 mg sourced from reputed manufacturers worldwide.

Usage

Take Codeine tablets as directed by your doctor. The adult dose of codeine tablets is 15 mg to 60 mg every 4 hours depending on the need. Codeine tablets should be taken with a full glass of water preferably with food.

If you abruptly stop using Codeine tablets it may cause withdrawal problems. Ask your doctor to suggest a tapered dose of Codeine to stop using it without encountering withdrawal problems.

In case you miss a dose of codeine tablets simply skip the missed dose and get back to your original dosing schedule. Do not take two doses of codeine at the same time.

Codeine is contraindicated (not to be used) for persons allergic or hypersensitive to codeine phosphate, and for those persons having asthma and Addison’s disease.

Caution: Codeine comes under US FDA Pregnancy Category C and therefore could be harmful to the unborn child if used during pregnancy.

Caution: Codeine overdose may cause respiratory problems and seizures. If you suspect codeine overdose seek immediate medical attention.

Side Effects

Common codeine side effects are dizziness, nausea, vomiting, constipation and headache. If these side effects don’t go away and continue to persist consult your doctor for remedial measures.
