Ativan contains the active ingredient lorazepam and is to be used in the treatment of anxiety disorders and for the relief of the symptoms of anxiety but only on a short-term basis for up to 4 months. Ativan belongs to a class of drugs called benzodiazepines. Ativan enhances the effects of the naturally occurring chemical in the brain called GABA bringing about a calming effect and that’s how it does its work Generic Ativan tablets are supplied by us in strength of 1 mg and 2 mg sourced from reputed manufacturers worldwide. Usage

Take Ativan as directed by your doctor. Generally Ativan dosage for adults is 2 mg to 6 mg per day divided into smaller doses with the largest dose taken around bedtime. Ativan can be taken with or without food.

Ativan should not be used in children below the age of 12 as its safety has not been established.

If you abruptly stop taking Ativan it could cause abdominal and muscle cramps, convulsions, depressed mood, sleeplessness, sweating, tremors, and vomiting. So in case you want to stop taking Ativan consult your doctor and get him to prescribe you a tapered dose for preventing withdrawal symptoms.

Ativan should not be used excessively as it could cause drug dependency.

Ativan is contraindicated (not to be used) for persons allergic or hypersensitive to lorazepam or to the entire class of drugs known as benzodiazepines. Ativan should not be used by persons having acute narrow-angle glaucoma.

Caution: Ativan comes under US FDA Pregnancy Category D which means that Ativan if taken during pregnancy is a potential risk to the fetus. Ativan if taken during pregnancy could also cause miscarriages.

Caution: Ativan overdose may cause sedation, coma, confusion, speech problems and low blood pressure. If you suspect Ativan overdose seek immediate medical attention.

Side Effects

Although Ativan side effects cannot be anticipated and does not occur to everyone, the most common side effects noted were dizziness, sedation, and amnesia. If these side effects keep persisting consult your doctor for remedial measures.

Precaution

Inform your doctor if you have heart disease, liver or kidney trouble, breathing difficulty, psychiatric disorders or any allergies before being prescribed Ativan.

You should not be driving a vehicle or working on heavy machinery after taking Ativan.

If you are an elderly person taking Ativan please note that the drug is likely to have more side pronounced effects than in a younger person.
